Crafters Gonna Craft 2025 - Workshops
Workshop #1 - Crochet Foundations Stitches

Learn how to do the foundation slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet as an alternative to the foundation chains. Foundation stitches provide extra stretch and more uniformity when starting projects. It also saves you from having to do that dreaded 50+ stitch starting chain.

Supplies needed:
Approximately 20g of any yarn of their choosing plus an appropriately sized crochet hook.

Workshop #2 - Dye Garden Planning

Information about plants used for dyeing that can be grown in backyard gardens in Minnesota, through a variety of visual aids and examples. Attendees will also discuss seed starting with tips for how to successfully grow dye plants, and then the techniques to successfully dye with these plants. Attendees will then use this information and reference books to create a plan for their own dye garden!

Workshop #3 - Rocking Horse Farm - Needle Felting Crash Course

Attendees will have a hands-on needle felting experience. While creating a felted item that can be taken home we will discuss local wool production, the felting process, the difference between wet felting and dry felting (needle felting), and uses for the completed felted piece.
Felt work can be used for embellishing knit or crochet items and we will look at some samples of completed pieces. This felting technique can also be used to create dryer balls which aid in drying laundry naturally and reducing static without using chemicals or dryer sheets. The completed take-home project can be used as an applique embellishment, or hanging decor.

Workshop #4 - Haley Herman - Crochet Your Own Adventure

​The Crochet Your Own Adventure Shawl is a pattern with a story. It is an interactive crochet pattern that can be customized based on your choices throughout the story. During this workshop we will read the story together and you will be given the sections of the pattern that go along with your choices throughout. We will then begin working the pattern together.

Supplies needed:
Attendees will need their desired yarn (3 skeins of fingering weight, or approximately 1,300 yds). A 3.75mm crochet hook or desired hook for project and stitch markers. Feel free to bring other notions that you need for creating.

Workshop #5 - Make Your Own Hand Butter & Learn to Take Care of Your Crafty Hands

Attendees will learn the basics of body butter creation and understand the benefits of natural ingredients for skin and well-being. During this workshop, attendees will create their own customized body butter, while learning how to make your own signature scent. Relax and enjoy a calming atmosphere with like-minded individuals.
This will be a hands on experience. You will also be guided through some hand stretches and massage techniques, to keep your crafty hands healthy!

Workshop #6 - Theresa Bentz - Learn Drop Spindle

Learn the art of spinning with a drop spindle with Theresa Bentz owner of Get Bentz Farm and Woolen Mill. Attendees will learn how to pre-draft fiber and prepare it for spinning, how to hold the fiber while spinning, and how to create a yarn. Discussions of additional steps to spinning such as plying, and perfecting consistency with the spun yarn. There will be selections of roving from the major branches of the sheep family tree, and will discuss lock structure, crimp, and the general history of the sheep breed. Theresa will also give recommendations regarding how to adjust spinning techniques for different fiber types, and what garments the finished yarn would be best for. This is a great opportunity to try your hand at spinning yarn! Open to all who want to learn - all levels.
Supplies needed:
There will be some drop spindles available to use on a first come first serve basis. Otherwise, you may purchase one onsite as supplies last or borrow one from a fiber friend.

Workshop #7 - Cori Eichelberger - Knitting Tips & Tricks You May Not Know

Do you want to improve your knitting skills? Whether you are a beginner or an experienced knitter, there are lots of knitting tips, tricks, and hacks to help you improve your skills. Certainly, you can learn from mistakes but it’s also nice to discover simple tricks so you can become a more efficient knitter. These tips also save you a lot of time, energy, and money . . . so you'll have completed projects you'll love in less time and without the added expense. Some of the tips are geared toward advanced beginners but even more experienced knitters can learn a few new tricks.
From decreases, to estimating yardage, to shaping sleeves, to pick up ratios, hand exercises and ways to make your stitches sing. This class will cover Tips from A-Z and Tricks from 1-50. A fun way to spend a couple of hours learning. There will be time for questions re-garding sticky spots in your knitting that you’d like solved.

None required. However, feel free to bring a real life time out project or bring a swatch to play with during class. Cori may not be able to work with your specific issue and you may become inspired to figure out how to get unstuck.
